Analyzing the impact of hegemonic masculinity, we show how systemic stigmas inform unattainable physical standards for queer men, and subsequently contribute to profound body image concerns within this group. We then expound upon the workings of systemic stigma in worsening the health conditions of queer men who are struggling with body image. This review concludes with a synthesized model of the discussed processes, providing testable predictions for future studies and detailing applicable strategies for improving body image among queer men.
